The province of Oristano shows one of the most various and typical views of Sardinia: in a short time you can go from the sea to the mountains, throw pools, pine-woods, crops, and citrus fruits trees. The cost is gorgeous because of the wind and the see creating the alternation of sandy beaches and cliffs., where you can find a large number of Spanish towers, sentries of an ancient past. You can cover different itineraries to admire a different view from the rest of the island.

Torre Grande: One km far from Cabras and 6
from Oristano, Torre Grande is one of the most lively places around about night life. We can find lots of open bars with
alive music, and also attractions for children, and a big variety of stalls. Its beach is quite equipped, there is a sailing
school, a haring point and you can also do boat excursions.up |
Santa Giusta: This little town is placed three km far from Oristano, by the homonymic lagoon (where take place the regatta of is fassoisi - see the folk traditions link-). His origins are Phoenician and at that time it was called Othoca becoming a Roman city later.
you must visit the basilica of Santa Giusta, one of the most important examples of the Romanesque architecture in Sardinia. It was built around 1135-1145 with stones coming from Tharros town.

Not far from Santa Giusta there is Arci mount where on his top you have a beautiful view on the plan and the gulf. In the past it was a Vulcan.
It's an area very rich of natural monuments like sa perda sperada and sa perda mesa :a rocky heaps with strange shapes around were born legends.
About 6,000 years old before Jesus Christ, the ossidiana was extracted from this area. It was called the black gold of the prehistoric because it was used to make arms and tools.
This area was important for the Sardinian mine history and it have been called from the UNESCO umanity estate and becoming one of the eight geological-mine park in the island.

On the left side of Tirso river there is the thermal area, and we suggest you to visit Fordongianus, a very old town. The Roman built around the I and III century the thermae to took advantage of his water curative properties. And some roman ruins have been discovered around like some buildings and aqueducts. You' d better visit the Romanesque church of St. Lussorio (XI century) and the aragonese house (or Madeddu house) in gothic style and today it's a library. up |
The Montiferru: Santu Lussurgiu is devoted to sheep-breeding and horse and cattle breeding. It' s also famous for leather, wood and wrought iron craftsmanship.
San Leonardo of Siete Fuentes: Hamlet by Santu Lussurgiu famous for its seven fountains with water curative proprieties. The church in Romanesque - Pisan style built in the middle age time is interesting to visit.
Cuglieri: Important agricultural centre first olive-oil producer.
Around its area there are a large number of typical Sardinian prehistoric monuments like nuraghi, domus de janas, tombe dei gigantic and betili.

Santa Caterina of Pittinuri, S'Archittu and Torre del Pozzo: They are Cuglieri's three sea hamlets very touristic places for the beauty of their coasts.

The Sinis: It shows a clearly desert landscape distinguished by a dunes system and a saltish pools depressions, so the vegetation is typical. It represents one of the most important naturalistic areas in the Mediterranean with a lots of pools whom Ramsar convention has recognized his international importance, and several lagoons with a protected marin area. up |

Tharros: It s placed in the end of the Sinis peninsula. It was built by Phoenicians on the end of VIII century b.C. and it became an important commercial harbour because of is sheltered position against wind and sea-storm and provided by spring-water and a defensive system.
The ruins of its Roman period you can admire the aqueduct, two thermal buildings, the temple.

St Salvatore: the village is famous for the cumbessias the little houses where people from Cabras move before the feast of the Saint. (see folk traditions the barefoot ride) The church is built on a pagan sanctuary born for water worship. It's compound by 5 rooms inside the rock. On the apse there is an holy well and several Arabic, Greek, Roman inscriptions and roman pictures. up |
